Library Ireland Week coincides with many important festivals and celebrations taking place in Ireland in early March and the events being organised around the country by librarians, already reflects this excitement and diversity. We have included the following links so that you can see at a glance exactly what is scheduled.

Ennis Book Club Festival www.ennisbookclubfestival.com 5-7 March 2010

Well known to all book club members, this dynamic literary festival takes place in Ennis every March and includes author visits, music, workshops and exhibitions.


National Tree Week www.treecouncil.ie 7-13 March 2010

National Tree Week will take place from 7-13 March 2010. The theme is ‘Twenty Ten – Plant Again’. We are asking people to make a renewed effort to go out and plant more trees during the week.

Fairtrade Fortnight www.fairtrade.ie  22 February - 7 March 2010

The theme this year is 'THE BIG SWAP' We'll be asking the nation swap their usual stuff for Fairtrade stuff; your usual tea, coffee, chocolate or bananas for Fairtrade tea, coffee, chocolate or bananas. Each swap will be proof that Ireland wants developing world producers to get a better deal.


International Women's Day  www.internationalwomensday.com 8 March 2010
International Women's Day (8 March) is a global day celebrating the economic, political and social achievements of women past, present and future. In some places like China, Russia, Vietnam and Bulgaria, IWD is a national holiday. The first IWD was run in 1911. Next year is IWD Global Centenary 1911-2011
