What is your name? Jane Clavin
Where are you from? Originally from Dun Laoire but now happily living in Avoca, Co. Wicklow
Where do you work? I'm the Development Manager with the Library Association
Did you always want to be a librarian and if not what did you do before? No, I origianlly wanted to be an archaeologist, but whilst I was at UCD I wandered into a talk being given by Mary Burke on Library work and that, as they say, was that.
What is your average day like? In this job there is no average day! It entirely depends on the time of year. Between January and April a whole lot happens. Ther is membership renewals, Leabharlann-E, the AGM and of course Library Ireland Week to organise, so its a very busy time. Things calm down a bit in the second half of the year so I can get my breath back and play catch-up
How many people do you work with? I work alone
What do you enjoy most about the job? The sheer variety of work ....
How do you relax after a hard day? I've just given up smoking so I'm trying not to sit down with a glass of wine! Generally I take the dog for a walk. Being out in the air always cheers me up. |
